My DH has his whole family coming over from the other side of the pond this weekend and they are staying for about a month.  We will be hosting a bit of a family reunion Bar-B-Que at an OPP next weekend.  We will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and such.  And I want to make some home made brownies....

I will need to find something that I can make THIS weekend and than just freeze.  I am looking for a Chocolate Bar type receipt because it's a bit different than just a standard brownie and will be nice and rich.

Does anyone have such a recipe?

Sorry, my favorite brownie recipe comes out of a box.
Ghridelli brownies are the best they're so good it's not worth making them from scratch.

My moms secret brownie recipe is Betty Crocker mix!   Ha ha!  Seriously, though, check out TASTEOFHOME.com, I've been cooking with their recipes since like, 1994 or something.  Good source for all kinds of food!

Oatmeal Brownies
2 1/2 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. flour
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 t. baking soda
3/4 c. margarine, melted
1 pkg. Betty Crocker Original Supreme brownie mix, with chocolate syrup pouch
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. vegetable oil
2-3 eggs
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Heat oven to 350.  Grease bottom only of 9x13 pan.  Mix oats, brown sugar, and baking soda, stir in butter.  Reserve 1 cup of mixture.  Press remaining mixture into pan.  Bake ten minutes, cool five minutes.  Stir remaining ingredients, using 2 eggs for fudgie brownies or 3 eggs for cakey brownies.  Spread over baked layer and sprinkle with reserved oat mixture.  Bake 35-40 minutes till toothpick comes out clean.  Cool completely, about two hours.  Store tightly covered.  Makes 48 brownies, 135 calories each.

Very decadent stuff.

I was thinking of just making the box brownies and putting in pieces of a chocolate bar from the bulk food store.   I will just tell everyone I made it from scratch.

Try the recipe I posted.  You wouldn't be sorry!  I've had to practically ban them from the house, and I don't even especially like brownies!

Put half your batter in pan,top with andes candies or peppermint patties, then rest of batter.  bake as diected.  Any recipe or box mix will do.  Is this the type of thing you were looking for?

Another vote for the Ghiradelli mix. About the only thing I think that might improve it would be to make it in the do while you're out. I've had nothing but rave reviews from this mix.

(If you can't find it, try any chewy fudgy box mix. Hershey's also works well, or Betty Crocker's chewy fudgy mix.) I have no inclination to try making my own (and I make my own of most things.)
